On my travels in Asia, one thing that's struck me is the harmony that seems to exist among children. Older kids take an interest in their younger brothers and sisters that's part playmate, part parental. I walked up some stairs to find the older girl helping her younger sister ride her tricycle around the rough courtyard and amusing her with an unamused kitten. |
| We had just left Ghoom Monastery by fast Jeep when we rounded a downhill corner and whizzed past Miss Bunny Ears. She was as surprised to see us as we were to see her. I was able snap off a single frame before we disappeared around the bend. The autofocus wasn't quite perfect but was close enough that I'm including this cutie with the other kids. |

While her brother and I looked on, this girl took a piece of rope, tied one end to the doorknob and the other end to the porch railing, carefully adjusted the height, checked the knots, laid a pillow over it and made herself a swing. The rest of us stood around in admiration -- except for the dog. He's probably seen it all before. |
| Two young ladies on Nehru Road, down from Chowrasta towards the orange ladies. |

Hindsight tells me I should have taken a roll of these two. They were having a great time flailing away with their sticks to knock tiny white flowers off the wall to collect for bouquets. What started as fun soon became a contest to see who could collect the most flowers and in the heat of the moment Miss Red resorted to grabbing Miss Blue's stick. Here, we're seeing Miss Blue's reaction to this flouting of the rules as she takes her bouquet and heads home. |
| Up on the roof with mom sewing just out of the picture. This group saw us coming and charmed us into taking half a dozen pictures. The one on the left seemed particularly adept at posing. Do girls have some sort of photo-gene? I'm always surprised at how quickly girls of two, three and four can turn a sidewalk into a catwalk. |

Speaking of whom... this one left her friends talk to Leela, but then became focused on me -- the one with the camera. |
| When you're younger than springtime, you don't need shoes in winter. The temperature was never above 12C, but this girl kept warm bagging oranges, chasing the ones that missed the bag and headed downhill, running up to greet strangers and occasionally going back to visit mom sitting with the other orange ladies. |
